Edited casting video

In order to be able to have people who are able to play their instruments and look nice on the camera, and be able to pull out the video on the good friendly video, we had to do the casting of those who would match the vibe of the song, the style of the music video and the set together.  In this video, there are people who I and my group think will be suitable for the roles of Drummer, base guitarist, guitarist, and lead singer.

Audience profiling.

The main target audience for the band and for the music video will be an 18 to 21-year old audience. The people who are old enough to think about what they are listening to and also about the fact what is the main aim of the song(s) of the artist/band.

Talking about the demographic segmentation and the Jicnars scale I believe that on the Jicnars scale our target audience will be on the level of C1/C2, it is mainly due to the fact that at the age of 18 to 12 people tend to have a full school education, but not everyone has a degree. However, people at that stage are capable enough of doing work, they are starting to earn some money. Talking specifically about the demographic segmentation the audience will mainly be male with some sort of degree status, they will mainly have a white ethnicity and provably will be from the middle/higher middle class with the traditional sexuality.

Continuing with the psychographic segmentation or the lifestyle segmentation as it is known it talks about the attitudes and lifestyle classifications of the audiences that will listen to the music.  Our target audience most likely will go in the mixture of rebels and believers VALS group. It is like that due to the fact that normally at that age people do not tend to do everything that they have been told, but by that age, people have a much clearer vision of their own lives, ideas.  Also at that age people start to believe in families, friends, love more because as people become older, they normally tend to change their values and perspectives o the world and on some controversial social topics.

I believe that our target audience would like the new band, although some of the people would prefer more rock or more indie elements. I believe that that might happen largely because of the fact that our band will be an indie-rock band, and in the first song, there is a lot of mixture of these two genres.

In order to be able to understand the audience, I have made a mood board that roughly reflects my target audience of the band and of the music video.

Advanced camera workshop.

The name of the camera that we were introduced to and the camera that we will be working with is called

When you are working with expensive equipment there is a rule that calls " yours, mine". This means that whenever you give the equipment to somebody and you feel like that person has it you say "yours" and when somebody gives you equipment and you feel like you completely can hold it you say "mine". By saying so it prevents the equipment from falling and breaking and it also shows the time when you are responsible for the equipment or somebody else.

The best way to use the tripod is to open the bottom latches first and then open the ones that are higher. That makes it easier to increase the height of the tripod evenly. The other thing is that the handle of the tripod has to be on the right side of the tripod. So when the spirit level of the tripod is facing you the handle has to be on the right

In order to set up the camera on a tripod you have to be aware of two key things:

The camera is very heavy and expensive, so you need to be very gentle with it

You need to be careful of the surface of where came is going to be placed on the tripod is smooth, so no elements that are fixing the camera are needed to be open

In order to do so, you need to press the button on the tripod that is located on the left upper side of the tripod

that button prevents the 'stopper' from stretching the camera and also once you stop pushing this button once the camera is on the tripod camera is fixed. The other important thing to do in order to fix the camera on the tripod you have to turn that button on the right upper side of the tripod so that the camera is stabilized on the tripod. To be completely sure that the camera is fixed you can do what is called "An earthquake test". After the camera has been put on the tripod, you need to put the battery on the back of the camera, be aware of it to be previously charged.

White balance:

In order to do the white balance. You need to make sure that the white balance is right within the frame. The site balance is so crucial in filming because it reflects the exact colors that the director wants the audience to see. To change the white balance on the top right corner of the display of the camera. You need to click on it and you will have a variety of options to choose from. From indoor lighting to cloudy

weather lighting.

Exposure:

Exposure is the amount of light that comes on the lens from the source where you are filming. In order to change exposure you need to turn the blue circle, however, you need to apply a little more force on it.

Shutter angle:
Top left corner: shutter — measured in degrees. It is to do with motion, specifically blur. 180• makes the image natural-looking. Making number lower = less bleary.

By increasing the shutter angle it makes the image smoother, softer. Makes it more cinematic(probably less useful). Makes things look more intimate/romantic. Also can make the feel of an old school film. The normal setting for the shutter angle is 180 degrees .

To make the slow-motion effect you increase the FPS (frame per second) up to 50 fps +/-. Shutter angle is DIFFERENT to FPS

Each lens has a specific job and you normally use it because it makes it easier to edit in post. These lenses normally have only one job, they cannot do more than that one, exact job. The Numbers on the top of the lenses are the milliliters they represent.

When you take the lens off the camera has to be off(it will be better for the camera. The Zoom lenses are faster than others, however, the picture does not look as good.

The prime lenses do not zoom in the same way as the zoom lenses. In order to focus that type of lenses you have to:

1. Measure from the white mark

Prime lenses:

2. to the object what you want main focus on

3. You then have to get the lens on the number you had while you were measuring out (see the 1 point)

White numbers = metres; red numbers = ft

If you are using the primary lenses you HAVE to have help from someone. Zoom lenses are normally the best ones for working alone. The lens box is always either fully open or fully closed, it is like that to decrease the numbers of potential spilling out all the lenses from the box.

As the number of mm on the lens decreases the zoom increases. And another way around.

Rule: Beaty shots = higher mm number lens eg face shots. Wide shot = 18 mm +/-

How to shoot a good performance:
Standard set up:

• Lead in front, guitarists on the sides, drum at the back
• Film making is about moving people by shoving them (by shoulder etc) or saying where and how.

When we film from the floor if in the shot you can see something that is not supposed to be shown there you have to say “take” and tell the actor.

Due to the fact that the song has an official music label that they are signed up to or it does not have anything, in that case, they might have their own email address and contact information. It is important to email the band in order to let them know that their music has been used in our course-based music.

In order to find the contact details, my group and I have done the research and we have found the email address and the rest of the contact details of the bad 'The Extras' on their Facebook account. We have also found out that the band is not yet signed up.

We have created an email and sent it to the band's contact email that was provided to us from Facebook.

Research into genre conventions and similar products

In this slide show, I have looked at rock-indie genre conventions. I did so by looking at the social media campaign, first music video, and album artwork across 4 different indie-rock genre bands.

Feedback from the full group treatment.

We presented our idea to our teacher and production teacher. We were told that from the first song idea we have to change one of the locations due to the fact that it will be hard for us to find the office location that would work better and will be easier to find or make.

The other thing that was considered by one of our teachers is the fact that drummer playing with the pencils will take only 5 seconds of the whole music video in total.

It was also mentioned that rather than we make drummer play in the office, it will be better for us to make the lead singer start singing in the office, mainly because lead singers are more important than the others in a typical indie rock band. It will be even better if we use metaphoric ways of showing office workers, eg give them hospital drips and make them ill-looking.  One of the main targets for this idea is that we will need to change office location on something that we will. be able to construct easily and that would've suited the song, genre, and vibe of it.

Talking about the feedback from the second idea. The main feedback was about the fact that it will be tricky enough to construct the atmosphere of the 70s club, by using the costumes and the props, due to the fact that it will be tricky to find the most suitable one.

Talking about the 70s set up it will be very hard to create a setup that would look like the 70s and that it will not include any elements of the 'future' eg some elements from the 80s, 90s, etc.  Due to the fact that the singer sounds a little too old, it might be very hard to cast and we might end up with someone who will not suit the song and the voice of the lead singer.  The song itself is rebellious but in the same way serious, so the video has to be the same. The video has to be piss-taking but in the same way, it has to be serious so it has to include all of the elements that you could typically find during the 70s period.

Early feedbacks of song choice.

In this blog post, I wrote down feedback that I git from my media teacher and class after listening to some songs, that I have chosen to make my music campaign with.

The first song that my class listened to was made by  Twin Ritual -- Carrion.

All the class agreed on the fact that it is a band rather than an artist, it was clear from the song. The genre was agreed to be indie with a slight mixture of pop. The music video for this song is going to be fairly castable, however, my teacher told me to double-check whether the singer is white or Latina, due to the fact that it will be harder to find a Latina person, but not very tricky. Talking about some convention and the early image ideas, he class have agreed on the fact that there will be a performance at some parts of the music video. The video is also going to be very chilled and it will most definitely have a strong female lead, due to the fact that she is the only one you can hear in the song. Even though the video will probably be chilled, it will not be particularly bright/colorful, due to the atmosphere of the song -- it is bot very 'bright and colorful. Because it the sing there is a clear guitar solo and not only, but in the music, video guitar will also have to be highlighted. The band itself is going to be a little aggressive and rebellious, however, it will give out a little bit of chilled vibe, like everything s under control.  Overall my class ad I have agreed that it is going to be a good choice of sing and a band for the further developments.

The second song that I have played for the class was made by Sick Joy -- Dissolve me.

All the class agreed on the fact that it is a band, it was clear from the song. The genre was agreed to be is a clear rock without any other, additional genres. Talking about conventions and early image ideas, I believe that there have to be dark colors, mainly, or some dull colors. Lighting is going to be simple, to show fans of the band that the band is on the same level as fans, and to comfort the audience. due to the fact that it is going to be a rock band there has to be some aggression and aggressive part throughout the music video, and campaign overall. Because in the actual song there is a strong focus on the instruments, such as drums,  and the guitar, my class and I think that it is crucial to highlight it throughout the video. The clothing of the members of the band has to be stereotypical rock musicians -- dark clothes, baggy clothes, old-ish clothes, and more. Because the main focus is going to be on the band and instruments, My teacher has recommended to fil in a simple location such as a basement, or even a studio that looks dark. The editing has to be fast, in order to show the tempo of the song and the vibe it gives to an audience and listeners. It is going to be easy to cast band members, although, as my teacher highlighted the frontman of the group (singer) has to look old enough. Overall my class ad I have agreed that it is going to be a good choice of sing and a band for the further developments.

Critical Reflection.

We have created an indie-rock music campaign, that included social media, music video, and album artwork. The main social issues that were r...
