Editing Workshop

One of the main things that have to be ideal in the editing of the music video editing is the fact that the picture has to be the same as the sound. It is important to do so mainly because it will make the music video better and it will make it smoother.  The other important thing is the fact that the group of the same type of shots has to be together, and the name of each shot has to be clear not only for yourself but also to any member of the group. It has to be done that way so that if worst comes to worst and the editor will not be able to edit, anyone else will be able to continue to do so because the shots will be grouped together in the right order and it would also make it clear for other people.

Performance cut is the main thing that has to be done, it has to ve the first thing that the editor will do. Because throughout the editing you(as an editor) will be able to cut back to the performance part of the video.  The other important thing that has to be done in editing the music video, is that when there are the first lyrics of the song the face of the lead singer must be shown, his face must be shown. It has to be done that way so that the audience member(listener) will know who's song is it and who is singing it. The same rule applies to other members of a band, it is also done for the same reason, for the audience to not be confused with who is who. Another good thing to consider, while editing the music video is to follow both, movement of the camera and the movement of the action. This way the video will be more interesting to watch and it will also make it smoother.

Looking at how it is the best to do editing you start with the syncing footage and making it look as neat as possible. Then you move to performance cut (which will essentially become your main shot to which you will refer throughout the editing process). After doing that you can start adding the extra elements of the shoot ar the narrative elements of the shoot.  Only after that you can clean the edit and move on the effect shots and finally color those parts that are needed to be. There is a right way of editing and sort of layout of the editing process mainly due to the fact that you do the most important in the beginning and only then clearing up and making it look pretty.

As well as these important rules and the ones that you should be aware of there are ones that are also have to be taken into consideration. This includes the fact that you do not do a rough cut at any point of your editing due to the fact that it just wastes time at it is easier to do the best cut possible from the beginning.  Another thing is to focus on 10 seconds of footage at a time, it is important as if you will do a lot of different footage and a time at some point you will not have enough time for all of them or some of them will not be as good. The other thing which comes out from the previous one is the fact that for a better effectivity it is recommended to edit for an hour and then to take a little break, that way you can focus better on work and also find yourself more productive.  The last and not the least im[ortant thing is to not show at any point your work that has not been finished yet to anyone apart from your teacher, not even to your groupmates. It is crucial because people might take your idea, or they might tell you that everything is too good or, another way too bad, which probably(most likely) will not be an objective opinion.

Lighting design.

In order to be able to have a good quality lighting which is like what we are imagining and the one the will be working well with the genre conventions and the mood/atmosphere of the music video, we as a production group had to put together a presentation about the lighting styles/types that we would like to see on each of our sets.

Test shoot reflection

In order to be able to improve the work and the test shoot,  and make it look better my group and I decided to talk about the test shoot, how it went and how it could be improved on the actual shoot day.

During the test shoot, the best thing that went well is the team working, especially the work of the band. Cast members are working well with each other, and some of them were also helping our production group members.

The other thing that went well is the fact that we as a production group communicated well, we were on time for every shoot, we also were respecting everyone's timetable and the times when everyone was free from school and was able to film. One of the most interesting things that went well is the fact that most of the cast members already learned their notes and some lyrics, which also made the process of the test shoot go easier. The only thing that I believe we as a production group should improve in the work of our cast is the way in which our bass guitarist and guitarist play the melody in the song.
Because in the test shoot they made a bare minimum of movements and did not look as energetic, as the rhythm and the melody of the song and song parts wanted to. The concept of our idea works quite well, the only thing that I would improve is the single-framed stuff because it look4ed not as we were imagining. The non-sync parts, however, worked quite well, as I think because we had what we wanted to. Although the 'acting' of some of our cast members should be improved as it was mentioned before.  The main target that we are setting for our group and I am setting to myself is to be more organized, as we sometimes could not get ourselves or our cast members together.

The full and final version of the story board.

In order to understand more deeply and in more detail the music video and how it will be shot my group and I have created the storyboard.

Here is the final version of the storyboard with the contribution of the whole production group:

Costumes: how we will be able to get it

In order to be able to get all of the props and costumes my group and | have agreed on the following arrangements:

1. We will try and get all the instruments from the school music department, or buy them from the charity shop(s) that way it will be less expensive and we and our cast members won't have to worry about props, in case it breaks or anything like that. The other place where we might have a look for the props is Poundland

2.  We are going to talk to our cast members and see if there is anything that they can bring so that we won't have to buy it. However, in case cast members will not have anything that we like and want to see in our music video, then we will try and buy everything that we need costume wise off an Amazon

or Marks&Spencer, in order to keep our budget as minimal as possible

Costumes: why we need it.

The main aim of getting the costumes for the band members is to be able to show what genre the band is playing. So the costumes and props are part of the genre convention. If you take a look at any indie rock band, such as Arctic Monkeys,  all the band members are wearing casual clothes, which at the same ti9me show a slight rebellion in their songs and attitudes in the same way.

One of the main reasons, as mentioned before is to be able to communicate with the listeners and to show them what genre the band plays in. The other reason for creating specific costumes and props for the band and the music video itself is the fact that it will be easier for both production groups and the cast to be able to get all we/they need and to be able to understand what we will need to order/buy and what we won't need to warry about too much.

Critical Reflection.

We have created an indie-rock music campaign, that included social media, music video, and album artwork. The main social issues that were r...
